Dee Caffari is among four other Brits to use Livewire Digital’s M-Link communications system in the prestigious Vendee Globe yacht race

Livewire Digital Ltd, a leading provider of remote video transmission solutions, today announced that it supported five of the six British competitors competing in the recent Vendee Globe yacht race, including Dee Caffari - the first ever woman to sail solo around the world, non-stop in both directions. Dee Caffari and her fellow British competitors selected M-Link technology from Livewire Digital as their preferred video communications system for the race.

Dee Caffari has used Livewire’s M-Link technology to conduct live television interviews from mid ocean and by sending back ‘store & forward’ video off the yacht, has been able to provide footage for use on the Vendee Globe website and for TV broadcasting. The M-Link software compresses video and manages the file transfer over the satellite, and in doing so, makes the most efficient use of the 128kb satellite link provided by the Inmarsat Fleet 77 terminal, fitted on Dee’s yacht ‘Aviva’.

Dee has enthused about the communications systems. She says: “The technology and communications have really developed and it’s fantastic to be able to bring the race and the adventure to everybody sat at home.”

Dee was very appreciative of the assistance she received from the Livewire team, both during the original installation of the video system and whenever support was required during the race.
