The 2011 Fastnet race has given three Volvo 70’s the chance to flex their muscles ahead of the start of the Volvo Ocean Race in Alicante in October.

For the Media Crew Members, (MCM’s) and the media communications team at Livewire Digital and Volvo Race HQ, it has been a chance to try out the on board media systems. What started out as tests, rapidly turned into a series of live events to TV and radio stations.

Radio interviews and high quality live video transmissions were “bridged” at Livewire’s offices via the Media Services Rack. On Sunday afternoon, live radio interviews delivered some very high quality audio through to radio stations in Dubai. These were followed up by live video links from Team Abu Dhabi, Groupama and Sanya through to Volvo Race HQ.

On Monday morning Groupama went live to BFM TV for an on-board interview with Franck Cammas. As well as the live coverage, the MCM’s sent back many still images and file based HD video footage for use by the Volvo Ocean Race media machine.

Ahead of the start of the Volvo Ocean Race in October, additional media workflows will be introduced for the Ocean legs and the Live in-port events.

If the coverage of the Fastnet is a taster of things to come; then the next addition of the Volvo Ocean Race should bring some thrilling coverage for race fans. The excitement is building!
