The 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race starts on the 11th October in Alicante, Spain. There are some significant changes from the last race. The new route includes stopovers in Cape Town, India, Singapore, China, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Goteborg, Stockholm and will finsih in St. Petersburg. Also, for the first time a media specialist will be appointed by each team to capture the drama of the race. They will be responsible for the recording, editing and delivery of on-board footage through Livewire’s media system.

For this, the the tenth Volvo Ocean Race, Livewire have developed 'Media Desk HD'. This has involved completely re-developing the Media Desk used in the 2005-2006 Race and has presented a host of new challenges. The new Media Desk will offer HD aquisition from from a new generation of on board HD cameras. The video will be compressed and transmitted via satellite using Livewire's M-Link technology.
